3 overloaded coal trucks seized

From a Correspondent

Joysagar, Feb 23: The Sivasagar District Transport Department officials, with the help of the District Police, seized three coal-laden trucks from Assam-galand border area ginimora on Wednesday night. As per information, the trucks with registration numbers AS-16-C-2132, AS-25-A-1125 and AS-01-Q-8996 loaded with coal were trying to cross the border area when DTO sleuths in their regular check found that all the trucks were carrying more coal then the permitted weight. Coal smugglers often carry overloaded coal so that they can evade paying government revenue as they never deposit the tax amount for the overloaded coal.

Later, all the trucks were brought to the Sivasagar DTO office where legal steps were taken, sources said. Moreover, the District Transport Department has already conducted checks against such coal smugglers and the officials were able to seize as many as 20 trucks with fake documents in and around Sivasagar district in the last two months.
