30 per cent of long pending cases in Tripura solved in last 3 years

Agartala, May 6: Solving of the 33 year old murder case of MLA Parimal Saha has raised a storm in the state but it was not an exception, Atleast 30 per cent of the state’s long pending cases were resolved in last three years since the formation of the Tripura High Court.

It was revealed during an interaction session with the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court Deepak Kumar Gupta with the practicing lawyers organised by the Tripura High Court Bar Association on Thursday. Most of the judges and practicing advocates were present.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Justice Gupta said during his three year tenure special emphasis were given on speeding up of justice delivery system and solving of long pending cases. During this period 33 percent of the long pending cases, waiting for trial since long, could be restored for trial and 30 per cent of them could be solved. The remaining 3 per cent also is in the fil stage of solution.

He said during this three years verdict were delivered in 6700 cases and the situation stands at the moment that there is hardly any case, older than three years, pending before the courts in Tripura. The interaction session was organised amid speculation that the Chief Justice is going to be transferred as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court and the second senior most Justice of the Guwahati High Court Justice T Vaipee is going to replace him.

Justice Gupta also gave some indication to this effect when he said, “I am going for summer vacation and not sure if I will come back here.” He expressed gratitude to the members of the bar for extending all co-operations in discharging his duties. He advised the younger generations of advocates to go in details of every case and if necessary search the background. This will eble you to become a good advocate, he said.
