31 killed in Syria bombing, IS claims responsibility

Damascus, July 27: At least 31 persons were killed and over 170 injured on Wednesday when twin suicide bombings hit the city of Qamishli in Syria with the Islamic State militant group claiming responsibility for the attacks. One of the IS bombers detoted an explosive-laden truck in a security compound of the Kurdish security forces of Assayish, a statement published by the group’s official Amaq news agency said. Another blast targeted the Kurdish forces outpost in the city, Xinhua news agency reported. The death toll was likely to rise as the rescue teams were still removing bodies from under the rubble, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Qamishli, which is largely controlled by the Kurds, has been the target of repeated bombings by the IS group, due to the enmity and clashes between the Kurdish fighters of the US-backed People’ Protection Units and the IS.
