3,243 houses under PMAY sanctioned for Dhubri town

DHUBRI, Dec 5: In the first phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yoja (PMAY), 3,243 houses were sanctioned recently for residents of Dhubri town having kaccha houses. All the beneficiaries of PMAY were given away the Letter of Intent (LOI) which contains details of the house and amount to be granted for construction of the house. The number of houses sanctioned for Dhubri town is much higher compared to other towns across Assam, an official said.

Besides Dhubri town, 311 beneficiaries were selected for houses under PMAY  for Gauripur town,775 for Bilasipara town, 600 for Chapor town while 458 for Sapatgram town of Dhubri district, and they also have been given away the Letter of Intent.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dhubri District Development Commissioner Mahmood Hassan said that all the 3,243 beneficiaries under this scheme would be given Rs. 2 lakh each in four equal instalment according to progress of construction. “Out of Rs. 2 lakh, Rs.1.50 lakh will be central grant and Rs. 50 lakh will be State share. Total Rs. 98 crore has been earmarked alone for Dhubri town. I appeal to all the beneficiaries to use this grant money properly,” Hassan further informed.

When contacted, chairperson of Dhubri Municipal Board, Toma Das  said that for the next phase, 219 beneficiaries had already been selected for Dhubri town. While explaining the criteria for selection of beneficiaries, Deputy Director of Dhubri Town and Planning, Anup Das informed this scribe that applicants under this scheme must have land in their me and must be living in kaccha houses.

“Apart from these criteria, applicants also must have bank account and mobile phone. Progress of construction works will be inspected and monitored by geo track stage by stage,”  Das further informed.

A meeting was held at Dhubri District Library Auditorium recently to distribute Letter of Intent among the beneficiaries, which was attended and  addressed by Dhubri district BJP president Dipak Kumar Saha, vice-president, Dr. Debamoy Sanyal, and vice-chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board Himabrata Mazumdar, Dhubri district information and Public Relation Officer, Bikash Sarma.
