36 vultures die due to poisoning

From a Correspondent

Joysagar, March 18: As many as 36 rare vultures died in Rupahi Pather of Joysagar in Sivasagar district on Saturday. As per reports, the vultures had come to Rupahi Pather and had eaten the corpse of a dog. It is doubted that some people might have killed the dog using poison and therefore, as the vultures had eaten the dog, the poison used to kill the dog affected the vultures too.

In a same incident which had taken place in Konwarpur village of Sivasagar about one week ago, eight vultures died following poisoning after the vultures had eaten the corpse of a cow in Konwarpur Jugania Gaon paddy field. At that time, Sivasagar Forest Department officials had doubted that the cow might have died after being bitten by a wild dog and this had affected the vultures too. Frequent killing of rare species of vultures in Sivasagar district has become a matter of serious concern among ture lovers and conscious citizens.
