38 cartons of illegal liquor seized

Tezpur, March 18: Law enforcement agencies have been recovering illegal liquor in the State which is reportedly smuggled from neighbouring States like Aruchal Pradesh at a low cost. This liquor smuggling has been causing huge revenue loss to the State. Thirty-eight cartons of illegal liquor were seized from an express train at Rangapara Railway station under Rangapara Police station in Sonitpur district on Saturday night.  According to sources, during search in harlagun-Delhi Express, the team of excise officials and Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized 38 cartons of illegal liquor worth around Rs 15,000, brought from Aruchal Pradesh. The liquor cartons were reportedly being shipped to some other places by train. However, the smugglers fled the scene.  Some local NGOs and student unions alleged that an illegal trade of liquor origiting in Aruchal Pradesh has flourished in the adjoining areas of Bhalukpong, Chariduar and Balipara but the Excise Department has failed to take any action to check the mece.
