Guwahati finish on top

GUWAHATI, Jan 12: Guwahati bagged the champion title in the 3rd State Games which concluded at Silchar today. The side altogether collected 116 medals that included 39 gold, 41 silver and 36 bronze. Host Silchar also made a good show in the meet and finished as 2nd best team. The side earned 73 medals (28 gold, 22 silver and 23 bronze) in the championship. Karbi Anglong with 17 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze, collected the third spot in the medal tally. The closing function was attended by Sports Minister Ajit Singh, joint secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Pradip Hazarika and several other members of the state apex sports body along with the officials of the Silchar DSA.

Earlier, Mayurakshi Das of gaon won women (singles) carrom title in the meet. Himakshee Baidya and Sharmila Baruah collected silver and bronze medals respectively. In the men’s team event Guwahati emerged champion and Jorhat finished second. gaon and Tinsuika jointly collected bronze medals.
