3rd summer mountaineering camp begins in Karbi Anglong

HOWRAGHAT, July 9:  The third summer mountaineering camp started from Saturday in Karbi Anglong. The five-day long adventure sports camp organized by the Karbi Anglong Mountaineering Association (KAMA) in association with the Karbi Anglong district administration, will be held in two locations - Centre Rock Garden and Longsokangthu (Siloni) under Howraghat and Diphu subdivisions respectively.

The 3rd summer mountaineering camp started from Saturday at Centre Rock garden. The camp was officially iugurated by Mukul Chandra Gogoi, Deputy Commissioner (DC), at Centre Rock Garden where Latumoni Sonowal, Additiol Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Momika Bora, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), senior jourlist Sanju Bora and the two mountaineers who recently scaled Mount Everest, Khorsing Terang and Hanry David Teron, were present. The overall camp will be guided by the two Everesters Khorsing Terang and Hanry David Teron.

 In today’s event, students participated from different schools and colleges in the distric. They were given training on rock climbing, rope rappelling and bouldering on rock.   Interacting with media persons, Deputy Commissioner Mukul Chandra Gogoi said that Karbi Anglong had potential sites for adventure sports through which students whether from Karbi Anglong or outside Karbi Anglong districts would be able to improve their adventure sports career. After the summer camp, a winter mountaineering camp will also be organized in Karbi Anglong, the DC said.

While speaking about adventure sports, Khorsing Terang said that comprehensive steps should be taken up to entice students towards the field of adventure sports.
