FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

Itagar, July 11: In a major breakthrough, the Itagar Police have apprehended four people, including two government officials for assaulting Ranjit Sinha, the associate editor of an English daily of State.

The culprits have been identified as Joram Tadam of Tago village, Tanya Raja and Yarda Sanjoy of Yarda village all from Lower Subansiri district and Gokia Nehru, of Deve village under Kra Daadi district.

Sinha was assaulted near the BJP capital unit office opposite Civil Secretariat here on the intervening night of July 6-7 last while he was on his way home.

What’s more surprising is that, Sanjoy is an IRbn constable who was recruited under sports quota and was currently posted in Balijan whereas Gokia Nehru is a traffic warden.

The police team consisting of SDPO Techi Hanyir, Officer in Charge, Itagar Police station T Bage, Inspector R K Jha and investigating officer A K Singh led by Capital SP Dr A Koan cracked the case in less than 72 hours.

Four accused who are all residents of IG Park, Forest colony were arrested from Itagar between Sunday and Monday. The police informed that four accused will be sent to judicial custody and that they have been booked under non bail-able sections of the IPC.

The police have recovered the stolen items including the mobile phone and other documents from the four accused.

Meanwhile, the Aruchal Press Club (APC), Aruchal Pradesh Union of Working Jourlist (APWUJ) and Aruchal Electronic Media Association (AEMA) has appreciated Capital Complex Police for cracking the Ranjit Sinha assault and robbery case.

In a joint statement the three media bodies stated that swift action of capital police indeed deserve appreciation.  However, they also said that police’s job of ensuring strong punishment to the accused starts now.

“Police should prepare strong case so that accused do not easily get away after committing such heinous crime. We appeal for immediate termition of IRBn jawan and Itagar Traffic Warden from their respective jobs.

If police personnel who are supposed to protect citizens indulge in crimil activities, how will citizen feel protected? This calls for serious introspection, the organizations said.

The media organizations further added that police department needs to keep an eye on activities of their own personnel.

All the four accused should be strongly punished in order to send out a loud message to the crimils, APC, APUWJ and AEMA said.

Further, the press bodies have appealed everyone not to interfere in the case and let law take its own course of action.
