42nd death anniversary of Omio Kumar Das observed

DHEKIAJULI, Jan 23: The 42nd death anniversary of legendary leader of the Indian freedom struggle and first education minister of Assam, Loko yak Omio Kumar Das was observed on Monday at LOKD College, Dhekiajuli.

 On the occasion, a memorial speech programme was held at the Bezbaruah Auditorium of LOKD College. Participating in the speech programe, the deputy editor of The Indian Express and renowned jourlist Samudra Gupta Kashyap delivered his maiden speech. In his speech, Kashyap said that Loko yak Omio Kumar Das  had a great role in the Indian freedom struggle movement. He reiterated that Northeast people made a great sacrifice in the freedom movement of India. He expressed sadness on the matter of non-inclusion of the mes of the freedom struggle leaders of this region in the Indian history.

Earlier,  LOKD College Principal Dr. Sukadev Adhikari  offered floral tribute at the statue of Omio Kumar Das at the college campus.  Some of the leading digtaries who attended the programme were Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal, Ramesh Chandra Borah,  president of Dhekiajuli Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Pradip Kumar th, former president, Zila Sahitya Sabha, retired lecturer Kul Prasad Sharma, Captain Nihar Sing, retired teacher Dhruba Prasad Sharma and  Phanindra Kalita.
