43rd Meghalaya Day celebrated at Ampati

Ampati, January 22:  Along with the rest of the State, the 43rd Meghalaya Day was also celebrated in Ampati, South West Garo Hills with a cyclothon called “Ampati Rengrengsil Salsusaani” and other events, including a short program at Ampati Mini Stadium on Wednesday.

 Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, Ram Singh who was the chief guest on the occasion, enlightened the crowd on the formation of Meghalaya. Mentioning the earlier event of cyclothon, Ram Singh specified that the event would take a larger shape in future with a view to encourage more people to adopt the use of bicycles in their daily life. He said that the use of bicycles would help keep traffic in control, eventually resulting in an overall healthier lifestyle.

 The cyclothon, which drew a large number of participation, covered a distance of 40–odd kilometers and the prizes were given away to the winners by the chief guest. Special prizes were also given to the oldest (62 years) and the youngest

(4 ½ years) participants.
