44 airports have potential under Udan connectivity scheme: Ficci

New Delhi, Jan 15: Around 44 airports across India have major potential for operations under the government’s Udan, or Regiol Connectivity Scheme (RCS) for civil aviation, a report by industry chamber Ficci has said. “Based on the geographical, operatiol and commercial parameters, 44 out of the 414 underserved and unserved airports have high potential under RCS,” the report, prepared jointly by Ficci with intertiol accounting firm KPMG, says.

“We have also identified around 370 potential destitions for the shortlisted airports, including metros, state capitals and important commercial, industrial and tourism centres,” the report authors wrote. According to its state-wise list, Uttar Pradesh has four high potential RCS destitions; three each in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Assam; two each in Aruchal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Bihar, Kartaka, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh; and one each in Andhra Pradesh, Telanga, Tamil du, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, Harya, Madhya Pradesh Jharkhand and Uttarakhand.

Ude Desh Ka Aam agrik (Udan), the scheme introduced through the tiol Civil Aviation Policy 2016, was formally launched in October last year. It aims to promote flying among the public through fiscal incentives, infrastructure support and monetary subsidies. (IANS)
