4,54,961 voters to cast their votes in Sivasagar district

GAURISAGAR: First phase of panchayat poll begins on Wednesday in Sivasagar district of 843 polling stations. Sivasagar is all set to conduct free and fair Panchayat election. A total of 4,54,961 voters comprising Sivasagar and Nazira subdivisions will exercise their franchise for 17 zila parishad, 82 anchalik and gaon panchayats and 820 gaon panchayat ward member seats through ballots. The Sivasagar district administration has made all necessary arrangement to conduct polls peacefully.

Already the presiding and polling officers and security personnel have reached their respective polling stations. Out of 843 polling stations, 202 polling stations are sensitive – Sivasagar (174) and Nazira (28). On the other hand, 13 polling stations are very sensitive (Sivasagar-3 and Nazira-10). Two election observers appointed by the Assam State Election Commission - Bharat Bhushan Deva Choudhury and Hemanta Pegu- have been taking stock of the poll preparedness in the district and keeping a close watch on the matters pertaining to the model code of conduct.
