46th foundation day of NSS observed at NEHU

SHILLONG, Sept 27: The 46th Foundation Day of NSS was observed at NEHU today.
A programme was held at the Committee Centre in NEHU here.
Speaking on the occasion, SK Jain, IPS compared the two organisations - NSS and the Police and said that the objective of both is to serve others and to have a selfless attitude towards life.
Jain called upon the volunteers to work steadfastly towards the motto and the objectives and stress that a strong will and dedication is a challenge to them to be completed as student volunteers.
Prof. Probodh Shukla, former Vice-Chancellor of NEHU & Chairman NSS UAC also appreciated the efforts of the NSS in awareness programmes, especially in coming forward to voluntary blood dotion.
Dr H Iangrai, State NSS Liaison Officer spoke on the philosophy of the alogy of “a paper, brick and curtain” to the different approaches in combating societal problems.
Dr. Lakhan Kma, Programme Coorditor, NSS Cell, NEHU gave a detailed background of the NSS movement in the country and the state and presented an over-all report on the activities of the NSS in the state.
The annual magazine of the NSS cell, NEHU was also released on the occasion. The programme was moderated by Iarisa Dorphang , Programme Officer, St. Edmund’s College.
Cultural programme was also organized as a part of the event. The University Level Awards 2015 were given away by the chief guest and others.
The best NSS unit award was bagged by St. Edmund’s College, Shillong, the best NSS Programme Officer was presented to Kerl’ihok Lyngdoh Buam, Synod College, Sophia Marwein, Shillong College, Rida Wanbha, Shillong College, Dennis Lallienzuol, St Edmund’s College, Balajied Wanshnong, St Edmund’s College, Chanbor Me More Dkhar, Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai, Karisma Tongper, Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai, John Elisa Kumar, NEHU NSS unit, Shillong and Sahil Syngkrem, Umshyrpi College, Shillong were jointly awarded the best NSS volunteers.
