46th foundation day of Tangla College held

TANGLA, Nov 17: Tangla College celebrated its 46th foundation day on Thursday. The day-long programme, which started with hoisting of flag by Dr. Prasen Daimari, Principal of the college, was followed by smriti tarpan by Manoroma Das Medhi, former Head of the Department of Assamese.

An open session was also held on the event where 46 earthen lamps were lit by the dignitaries, including Rama Kanta Baruah, former Principal of the college. The session was presided over by Dr. Prasen Daimari. Former Head of the Department of Political Science, Binoy Kr. Medhi graced the event as distinguished speaker. Medhi in his speech recalled the struggle and barriers faced by the college in the initial stage. He further lauded the students for excelling in different co-curricular activities in youth festivals of colleges and Universities and also excelling in the academic sphere.

Rama Kanta Baruah, former Principal of the college, recalled the hardship days of the college and the period of Emergency clamped in the tion. Many former teachers including Dith Das, founder member, Prafulla Rajbonghshi, former Head of the Department of History, Satyen Chakraborty, former Principal, Gosta Bihari Das, former professor, Dr. Jeevan Ch. Pathak and Alaka Devi, former Principal of the college were present.

Synchronizing with the foundation day, the college also organized an alumni meet which brought a nostalgic environment for the alumni. The alumni also spoke few words on the occasion. Chandan Baruah delivered speech on behalf of the teachers.
