48-hour OIL bandhcalled off

Duliajan, April 4: The 48-hour OIL bandh which began  from4am on Tuesday, called  by AkhilBharatiyaSafaiMazdoorSangh in protest against the sudden alleged  termition of engagement of  33 WCL contract workers by OIL magement, was withdrawn in theafternoon following a  meeting held at Duliajan Police Station.

The meeting was attended by OIL DGM (ER), Chief Mager (ER),CLC Mager (Security) , Senior (PHO), State Government official, including the Additiol SP , DSP (mrup) , Circle officer , and Officer in-charge of Duliajan Police Station.

In the meeting, the  office bearers ofAkhilBharatiyaSafaiMazdoorSangh, six organizations under thebanner of JatioJagosthi  Oikya Mancha and present contractor M/S Duliajan Sanitation Services Co-op Society Ltd were also present.After a prolonged discussion on the issue, filly the contract firmunder OIL, M/s Duliajan Sanitation Services Co-op Society Ltd , agreedto engage the 32 contract workers who are working in medical department of OIL  and who were earlier  termited .

AkhilBharatiyaSafaiMazdoorSangh hadlaunched indefinite strike since March 30.  But after the OIL magement and district administration did not pay much heed to their demand, the48-hour agitation was launched from Tuesday. The protestors blocked the entrance of the registered office, ER Department,Research and development Department, and industrial gate of OIL. Employees were uble to enter their respective offices.

During the agitation, the protestors shouted several slogans.Members of JatiyaJagosthiAikya Mancha also supported the bandh.But after the discussion the agitation was lifted in the afternoon.
