49 labour inspectors posted for enforcement of labour laws

SHILLONG, Sept 15: State Labour Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh today informed the House that 24, 933 migrant labourers employed by local contractors in the state are registered under the Inter State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act.

She was replying to a query during the Question Hour during the autumn session of the assembly.

Lyngdoh also informed that the Labour Department presently had 49 Labour Inspectors who are posted throughout the state for enforcement of Labour Laws including the Inter State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979. “Under the State Rules of the aforementioned Act, the contractors are required to furnish the details of labourers engaged by them and the antecedents of these labourers are being verified to ensure that no illegal migrant labourers are engaged by the contractors in the state,” Lyndoh said.
