4th annual convention of AIRTWF gets under way

Bongaigaon, March 25:  “Tripura government is already giving pension to the transport workers. If a small state like Tripura can do it, then why cannot the Government of India or Government of Assam do it?” said Manik Dey, Transport Minister of Tripura, on Saturday in Bongaigaon.
He said that the Tripura government had also introduced provision of medical assistance up to Rs 1.25 lakh for transport workers. “But Assam or Indian Government has not been able to introduce such scheme yet for the interest of poor people. This is not due to their lack of capacity. This is only because they have no interest to develop the poor class people. These governments only think about the benefit of corporate houses and hence they never come up with such schemes,” he said.
Manik Dey was speaking at an open meeting held in Bongaigaon during the 4th Assam State convention of All India Road Transport Workers Federation. The convention started on Saturday with a two-day long programme. The open meeting, which was the main attraction of today’s programme, was presided over by Mathura Das and Hareswar Das. Several leaders of AIRTWF like K K Dibakaran, secretary general,  Jiban Saha, secretary, Soumitra, Tripura State secretary, Suketo Aye, State leader of galand and many others were present in this open meeting.
