4th Assam Agriculture Day observed

Guwahati, Sept 24: Pragjyoti Communications in association with the Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing, Assam on Tuesday observed the 89th birth anniversary of Dr. Dhirendra th Borthakur, renowned Agro-scientist, popular science activist, writer and former vice chancellor of Assam Agriculture University, as 4th Assam Agriculture Day, stated a press release.

On the occasion a day-long programme, with a workshop among more than hundred farmers from various districts of the state on the topic of entrepreneurship development in the horticultural sector of Assam , was organised at Guwahati Press Club.

The workshop was participated by resource persons and agri-horticulture specialists Mowsam Hazarika, Madan Deuri Bharali and Palash Moni Baruah. Noted mushroom farmer and entrepreneur Pranjal Baruah also attended the workshop and spoke about scientific method of mushroom farming and its market value .

Later on from 3 pm onwards, Dr. Dhirendra th  Borthakur took part in an interactive session with the farmers and jourlists. He also delivered a lecture on agriculture scerio of Assam and emphasizing on the  importance of  horticulture and food processing in agrarian economy . He also answered various questions put by farmers and media persons.

Speaking on the occasion, Dipanka Hazarika, president, Pragjyoti Communications said that they have been celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr. Dhirendra th Borthakur since 2012 as Assam Agriculture Day.

The Pragjyoti Communications published two felicitation volumes on life, activity, contribution of Dr. D N Borthakur towards field of agriculture of our state and country in 2013 and 2014 edited by Dipanka Hazarika.
