SHILLONG, Nov 12: Lamjingshai School, a small school at Umtyngngar village, has become a beacon of light for other schools in rural areas as five students were awarded gold medals for excelling in both colouring and handwriting competition organized by Rangotsav Celebration, Mumbai.

The competition was attended by 39 students from the school, and even those who did not win also received certificates form Rangotsav Celebration. It is an achievement for the school as one of their students Justerfield Marbaniang, who is mentally challenged, also won in the drawing category and bagged a gold medal.

The other winners in the competition include Ishalis Kharkong for colouring, Wankmen Mary Kurkalang for colouring, Labinia Marbaniang for handwriting and Shankupar Kharkongor for colouring.

“We are very glad that our school has maged to bring out the talents of our students and some of them have won competitions and brought laurels to their family and the region as a whole. But this would not have been achieved without the hard work of both the students and teachers,” school Principal Virginia Marbaniang told The Sentinel.

The school had received the certificates and gold medals form Rangotsav Celebration by post on Friday.

“The achievement of these students is also a wakeup call for other people and schools in the region who has no knowledge about such competitions,” she said, adding that now even the concerned departments of the government will recognise that the school harbours active, smart and passiote students. She further said that the parents in this present generation should also make sure that their children are going to school.

Meanwhile, BMC of Laitkor Block, SA Aliya urged the parents to keep their children in schools until they complete their education.
