5000 athletes to take part in 38th tiol masters athletic meet

Thiruvanthapuram, Nov 5: Around 3,500 men and 1,500 women athletes from 29 states are expected to take part in the 38th tiol athletic championship meet to be held here from February 21 to 25.

"This is open to men and women in the age group 35 to 100 and in all there would be 23 events. There would be 1590 medals to be won and the participants would be grouped in 13 age groups (35 to 40, 40 to 45...). This is organised by the Masters Athletic Association of Kerala in association with the tiol body and the Kerala Sports Council," said the event's general convenor Koshy Samuel here on Saturday.

The last time the event was held in the state was way back in 1994 in the capital city and then a veteran athlete after making a record making jump, while repeating it for the photographers suffered a cardiac failure and dropped dead. IANS
