51 candidates in fray for Sivasagar municipal board polls

SIVASAGAR, February 6: As the campaigning for the civic polls heats up in Sivasagar, all eyes are on the polls for the Ward NO 13.

The ward, which mainly consists of Station Chariali, BG Road and A.T. Road areas, will witness a three–cornered contest. Former Congress man and ex chairman of Sivasagar Municipal Board Ra Khan is contesting from this ward as an independent candidate. Ra Khan, who was the chairman of the Sivasagar Municipal Board for three terms and the vice–chairman for as many terms, is contesting independently this time. His opponents in the election are Harirayan Dutta (INC) and Binod Chetia (BJP).

It needs mention that as many as 51 candidates are in fray for a total of 14 wards under Sivasagar municipal board. The INC and BJP have fielded candidates in all wards. The AGP has fielded candidates in 8 wards and the CPI has put up candidates in only one ward. In addition to the party candidates, there are 14 independent candidates in fray for the 14 seats.

According to officials of the Election Office, Sivasagar Eusuf Ahmed (Independent), Zakir Ahmed (BJP), Md Azad Alam (INC), Imul Haque (CPI) and Rakibuddin Ahmed (Independent) are contesting the poll for Ward No. 1.

Candidatures of Edi Ahmed (BJP), Yasmin Ahmed Ali (Independent), Tasneem Doullah (INC) and Rita Mech (AGP) have been filized for Ward No. 2, and the mes of Tahsi Karim (INC), Dipali Bora Das (Independent), Monuroma Das (Independent) and Riki Moni Saikia (BJP) have been filized for the Ward No. 3.

Two candidates, Anil Kumar Das (INC) and Upakunda Das (BJP) have been filized for Ward No. 4, while Puspanjali Dutta (AGP), Priti Pareek (INC) and Rinumoni Haloi (BJP) are the candidates contesting for Ward No. 5.

For Ward No. 6, the mes of Apurba Jyoti Bora (INC), Bibeka nda Bora (BJP), Rupa Bora (Independent) and Swapan Kumar Paul (Independent) have been announced as candidates, while the candidatures of Anju Sharma (Independent), Punya Hazarika (AGP), Phulmoni Das (INC) and Banda Kaushik Bordoloi (BJP) have been filized for contesting the poll in Ward No. 7.

The mes of Prab Jyoti Barua (BJP), Pradip Kumar Khemka (INC) and Bonti Dutta (AGP) have been filized for the election to Ward No. 8, while Gitali Barua (Independent), Banda Rajkhowa (AGP), Mitali Goswami (INC) and Sushila Goswami (BJP) are in the fil list for Ward No. 9 of the municipal area.

Amulya Barua (INC), Umashankar Sharma (Independent), Trilochan Borthakur (BJP), Bakul Bijoy Chutia (Independent), Jogesh Chandra Rajkhowa (Independent) and Sanjib Phukan (AGP) will contest the election from Ward No. 10, while mes of three candidates – Dipamoni Borgohain (AGP), Mrili Konwar (BJP) and Hira Prova Kowar (INC) – have been filized for Ward No. 11.

For election to the Ward No. 12, mes of three candidates – Bijeta Hazarika (AGP), Mridusmita Singha (BJP) and Lor Gilfellon Haque (INC) have been filized by the officials, while three candidates Anta Rajkonwar (Independent), Kiran Barua (BJP) and Bidit Gogoi (INC) will face each other in the poll battle for Ward No. 14.
