54th BSS conference to be held in Guwahati

KOKRAJHAR, February 11: The 54th session of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) will be held with a two-day colorful programme on February 14 and February 15 at the Socio-Literary and Cultural Complex, Bathoupuri, Gorchuk-Ahomgaon in Guwahati near Rupth Brahma ISBT. This was informed by the general secretary of the Sabha, Kamla Kanta Mashahary. The reception committee which was formed with Jiten Borgoyary as president and Kishor Kr. Baro as secretary has started preparations in full swing for the historic session.

As part of the programme on February 14, the Delegates Meeting Hall will be iugurated by Abir Patra, Mayor, GMC followed by iuguration of delegate camp by Dinesh Boro, Joint Secretary, BTC and iuguration of Bhabanda Boro Memorial Dining Hall by Jo Rabha, Ward Councilor. The Rati Swargiary Memorial main gate will be iugurated by Hemanta Talukdar, MLA of West Guwahati while Prem Kumar Boro Memorial main pandal will be iugurated by Bijoya Chakraborty, MP, Guwahati.

The Bandhuram Kachari Memorial Book Fair and Exhibition will be iugurated by M. Angumathu, DC, Kamrup (metro) followed by history-cum- literary session on the  topic ‘Identity Crisis of Indigenous People and future of Assam’, which will be chaired by Penual Basumatary, retired IA & AS, former Executive Director FCI (NE).

The semir will be iugurated by Dr. Prafulla Mahanta, Rtd.Director, ABILAC while the key note address will be given by Dipak Kr. Basumatary, Vice President, BSS. Dr. Upen Rabha Hakasam, G.U. Department of Assamese, Dr. Basanta Kr. Doley, former President, Mising Sahitya Sabha, Dr. Samujjal Kr. Bhattacharya, Adviser, AASU, Promod Boro, president, ABSU will be the resource persons. The central executive committee meeting and the delegates meeting will be iugurated by Bhojen Ch. Boro, former Secy, BSS while the welcome address would be given by Kishor Kumar Baro, general secretary, reception committee. The cultural night will be iugurated by Mitharam Basumatary, EM of Culture, BTC.

On the nest day, the president of the BSS, Dr. Kameswar Brahma will unfurl the flag of the organization while homage to martyrs will be paid by Dipak Kr. Basumatary, Vice-President, BSS. The souvenir and other books will be released by J. Borpujari, General Mager, IOCL, Guwahati Refinery. Bisweswar Basumatary, Vice-President, BSS will chair the souvenir release function followed by award presentation and felicitation ceremony which will be chaired by Dr. Kameswar Brahma, president, Bodo Sahitya Sabha.

The Rangsar Literature Award, 2014 will be given to Rupth Hazowary of Bijni, Chirang while the Sameswari Brahma Literary Award, 2014 will be given to Mwday Gahay, of Rowta Chariali, Odalguri. The Sanjarang Laksheswar Brahma Cultural Award, 2014 will be given to Kaklal Swargiary of Dhirenpara, Guwahati while prize for securing highest marks in Bodo M.I.L. in the HSLC examition, 2014 will be given to Clinton Boro of Baksa and Arup Swargiary of the same district. The Hangmashree Brahma Students Inspiration Award for securing highest marks in Bodo MIL in the H S examition, 2014 will be given to Mwblid Basumatary of Odalguri while the Subungthini Thandwi Mungkhlong Bineswar Brahma Haoria-Maoria Students Award, 2014 will be given to Amit Basumatary, HSLC, Barimakha of Baksa district.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma of Kokrajhar who won Sahitya Akademi award in 2014, Santi Basumatary, another Sahitya Akademi Awardee for Youth literature, 2014, Kaushalya Brahma, Kokrajhar, Sahitya Akademi Awardee for children Literature, 2014 and Gobinda Boro, Goreswar of Baksa district, the Sahitya Akademi Awardee for Translation, 2013 will be felicitated.

The open meeting which will be presided over by the president of BSS Dr Kameswar Brahma, will be iugurated by the chief of BTC, Hagrama Mohilary and the welcome address will be given by Jiten Borgoyari, president of the reception committee. Prof. Hemanta Kr. Baruah, the Vice Chancellor, Bodoland University, Kokrajhar will grace the occasion as the chief guest while Juwel Oram, Minister of Tribal Affairs, Government of India will be present as the special guest. Sarat Borkataky, Education Minister, Assam, Ajanta Neog, Minister, PWD, Assam, Bijoya Chakraborty, MP, Guwahati, Bengia Tolum, president, Nyshi Elite Society, Aruchal Pradesh will be distinguished guests while  Toren Ch. Boro, former Vice President, BSS will be guest speaker. Besides, Bodo MLAs, BTC EMs, MCLAs, president and secretaries of various democratic organizations will present as the guests of honor.
