Silchar, Nov 25: NRC documents and family tree verification is resulting in the unearthing of many fake claimants of being registered as Indian citizens. In pursuance of the verification process in Cachar, 6 persons who were identified as Bangladeshis have been arrested by the police. His eldest daughter Hasinu Begum (44), Shilpi Begum (37) and two sons Maklis Ali (35) and Azad Ali (32) and the absconding daughter is Husra Begum, whose age is not known. According to police source here, the deceit and malpractice adopted by Lichu Mia, as investigated, shows that he came to India in the year 1970 without any valid documents. He disguised himself as a utensil seller after settling down in a rented house of Water Works Road of this town. He began to make round of different places of Assam as utensil seller and in course of his visit to Margherita, he came into contact Fulbani Biwi and married her.

Subsequently, he had 3 daughters and 2 sons. It was for him a well settled life, but the NRC update process and the verification of documents, particularly family tree, revealed that he had used the legacy of a man bearing his me and using the data of 1966. The man whose legacy data was used was then 50 years old. By now, he would have become more than 100 years old. Without any hesitation, he got the legacy data of 1966 through an agent or dalal of a local court by paying him Rs.300 15 years back. This created the right opportunity to use it and legalize not only his stay but also of his sons and daughters.

In the meantime Fulbani Begum, Hasinu Begum and Azad Ali could procure Indian passports and even went to Bangladesh 3 years ago. Even, the mes of all of them were enlisted in the voters lists as well as got ration card and also became claimants for various government beneficiary schemes. According to the police source, Hasinu Begum was married to Bappi Choudhury and Shilpi Begum was also married to one Kutub Laskar.

They settled down in Water Works Road while Sanu Begum married to Asab Uddin took up residence at Kakpur of this town. His 2 sons, Maklis Ali opened a pan shop while Azad Ali took up the job of a driver. The father in law of Azad Ali is a police sub-inspector, a resident of Pailapool, posted at Hailakandi. The entire matter has come as a riddle and a puzzling affair. In course of investigation and interrogation, Lichu Mia admitted that he was a Bangladeshi and gave all details of how he could get documents and subsequently his exercise to get his me and other members of his family in NRC. He also said he did use the legacy of Lichu Mia, resembling his me.

Though Fulbani Biwi is an Indian citizen, she has been sent to jail in order to know all about the modus-operandi of Lichu Mia. The source adds to say that investigation is going on to come to the fathom of this very intriguing method of procuring Indian documents. It is believed that this will peel off many beans. It is also believed that there might be many Bangladeshis who have taken advantage of the loopholes in the administrative machinery.
