6-year-old kidpped by crimil gang

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

TURA, June 8: Crimil gangs once again returned to haunt the residents of the district of North Garo Hills today, with five such crimils abducting a 6 year old boy from Dangkong after locking his parents in an adjacent room.

The shock kidpping took place at about 12 am this morning after the group visited the house of one Inderswell Sangma at about 11:30 pm last night and began calling out to him.

“The five men were all masked though they seemed to not have come with guns. My wife heard them and informed me. They initially said that they wanted to drink water so I pointed to the kitchen which was open. They insisted that I opened the door which I refused. The leader then invoked the me of God in asking me to open the door and being a God fearing person, I relented,” said the father of the 6 year old victim.

The ordeal for the parents, both of who are teachers, lasted for over 45 minutes as the crimils firstly asked him to drop them to a nearby place.

“They asked me to drive them to a nearby place to which I refused. They then asked for the keys to my car and when I refused they threatened me. In fear I had to give them the keys to my car (AS 16 – 6666). They then got together in the room where my son was sleeping and said they wanted to discuss something and asked us to move to the other room. As soon as we got in, they bolted the door from outside,” added Sangma.

According to the family, the five men fled immediately after locking them with the car. It was only later that the parents discovered that their child was missing.

The saddened parents, who were inconsolable today appealed for the safe release of their son from the gang of crimils. The car was later dumped near the village of lbari in Goalpara district of Assam with the kidppers leaving a phone number.

Confirming the incident, the superintendent of police of NGH, Dalton Marak said, “We are still not sure about who could be behind the kidpping, we suspect the hand of the gang being led by one Mithun Sangma of Medoba. Operations to rescue the child is currently underway.”

Meanwhile after hearing of the incident, NGOs of nearby Daidubi including the GSU, AAYF and Joint Public Action Committee (JPAC) rushed to console the family.

“We are shocked at the kidpping of such a small boy and would request those behind the incident to kindly release the boy unharmed. His family is in deep shock and so are we,” said Sutin Marak, a local activist.
