61st Bn SSB observes 2nd Raising Day

UDALGURI, February 17: The 61st battalion of SSB observed its 2nd Raising Day with a day- long programme at Bhairabkunda on Tuesday. The programme began with the welcome speech by Commandant Rajeev Ra. He assured all possible help to the local people to maintain peace and harmony among the ethnic communities in the region.

The children of Savio English School, Bhairabkunda sung a welcome song while Bihu dance, Bodo dance, Mompa dance, Bhutanese dance, Nepali dance and Karbi dance were also presented during the session. Amit Kumar, Md. Mubarak and Akash Daimary of the 61st Bn SSB presented Sufi song and Hindi songs.  

The dog show entertained the people. The chief guest of the function was Prodeep Kumar Daimary, the BTC MCLA of 38 No Bhairabkunda constituency. While addressing the people and jawans, he praised the efforts of the SSB battalion in the region. He also recalled the history of its formation as a civil unit and how later it was transformed to guard the border areas with Bhutan and Nepal. The SSB unit had played a crucial role during the recent ethnic unrest in the region, he said.
