68th Republic Day celebrated in Diphu

From a Correspondent

HAMREN, Jan 28: The 68th Republic Day was celebrated at Diphu Government Boys’ playground on Thursday.

The flag was hoisted by KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang who was the chief guest of the function. The SP of Karbi Anglong Debojit Deori and Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan were also present along with MLA Sum Ronghang, KAAC deputy chairman, chairman and KAAC EMs and MACs.

KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang said that, “We mark this day as a great day for our country, the day we achieved full autonomy as an Independent Democratic Republic. We are particularly grateful to the drafting committee of the Constitution for having provided for us the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India which we are enjoying today in the form of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. We are also thankful that Article 244 (A) was later incorporated into the Constitution of India, which created a provision for the creation of an autonomous state for Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.  It is the aspiration and dream of both the hill districts of Assam that the autonomous state will be granted to us. But, we cannot achieve autonomous statehood through violence or other un-democratic means. We can achieve it only through peaceful and democratic means. Therefore, I appeal to all insurgent groups like the UPLA, KPLT, PDCK, to follow the steps of UPDS and KLNLF, shun violence and give up arms without any pre-conditions, join the mainstream and work together with us to take part in developing Karbi Anglong and to achieve our aspirations.”

He added, “We have made representations to the Central Government regarding the implementation of Article 244(A), and the full implementation of Mos (Memorandum of Settlement). I call upon all organizations in Karbi Anglong to stop this bandh culture and instead promote work culture. The need of the day is to raise the standards of education in Karbi Anglong. Youths of Karbi Anglong, please do not be afraid of TET. Rather, work hard, and prepare yourself to conquer TET. We all want our children to study under the top brains who passed TET because education is the backbone of our society.”

He further said, “Under the able leadership of our  Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, there are various developmental schemes coming up for Karbi Anglong. The Assam Hills Medical College and Research Institute at Diphu will be completed shortly, and the government is going to give 100 per cent job opportunities to the local youths. Likewise, we are stressing on strengthening of job-oriented technical and skill training for our youths in Karbi Anglong. I also encourage the youths to learn various work skills and become entrepreneurs. Get into farming. farming can fulfill your fincial dreams. Get into trading and service business. The scope is great, and there are many opportunities.
