6th annual convocation of NIFT held

SHILLONG, May 26: The 6th Annual Convocation of the tiol Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Shillong was held on May 24 at Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture, Shillong.

Altogether 60 graduating students were awarded with degrees in two undergraduate programmes mely Bachelor of Design in Accessory Design and Bachelor of Desing in Fashion Design and One post graduate discipline mely Master of Fashion Magement.

Special awards were also conferred to nomited students in categories like NIFT Best Academic Performance Award, NIFT Award for Meritorious Student and NIFT Student of the Year Award.

The function was graced by the Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University Prof. S.K. Srivastava as the Chief Guest in the presence of Dr. Shailendra Chaudhari, Maging Director of NERCORMP as the Guest of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Srivastava congratulated the graduating students of NIFT Shillong and hoped that they will become the new torch bearers in the field of Design, fashion and magement.

 “The fashion industry is highly competitive and fashion designers should try to adopt a non – linear approach and to be disruptive in order to create their own niche in the market”, he said.

He lauded the Ministry of Textiles under the honorable Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Irani for ushering in a fresh dymism and energy to the textile sector of the country through various initiatives and for the efforts to popularize Indian traditiol and ethnic textile.
