71.84 per cent turnout at Dhansiri subdivision panchayat poll

SARUPATHAR: The first phase of the panchayat election in Dhansiri subdivision, a litmus test the for ruling BJP half-way through its term before the Lok Sabha polls next year, was held in 16 districts on Wednesday. In south block Golaghat under Dhansiri subdivision, 65 percent polling was recorded till 3pm. Overall voter turnout was 71.84 percent.

Meanwhile, in some polling stations, anomalies were reportedly found in ballot papers while many complained that their names were missing from the electoral roll. At No. 2 Koirigaon in Pachim Naojan gaon panchayat under south block Golaghat, No.114 polling station voters created an uproar after they found errors in the voters’ list. At least 50 voters at No.2 Koirigaon in Pachim Naojan gaon panchayat could not cast their votes after they found their names missing from the electoral rolls. The electoral officers said that voters were responsible in most of these cases as they had not verified their names earlier. Overall, voting was mostly peaceful in Dhansiri subdivision under Golaghat district.
