75th foundation day of Assam Gorkha Sanmellan observed

UDALGURI, May 15: The 75th foundation day of Assam Gorkha Sanmellan (AGS) was held at the Khawrang Gorkha Natya Rangashala premises with a day-long programme. The programme began with the hoisting of flag by Ramesh Dahal, the president of Udalguri district committee of AGS, followed by smriti tarpan by Bhuban Dhamala, the general secretary of Udalguri district committee, AGS. The sapling plantation was done by Bishnu Prasad Poudyal and others. The delegate session of Khawrang branch committee, AGS was inaugurated by Laxman Goutam, the vice-president of Udalguri district committee AGS while the delegate session of 4 No. Borigaon branch was inaugurated by Dilip Bhusal, the executive president of Udalguri district committee, AGS.

The open session was presided over by Ramesh Dahal and the welcome address was presented by Shiva Bhattarai. The session was inaugurated by Laxmi Sendai, the general secretary of Asom Gorkha Sanmellan. Bhaskar Dahal, another general secretary of AGS, urged the people to stay united to resolve the problems facing by the community. Dilu Sarmah, the executive president of BTC region Assam Gorkha Sanmellan, urged the Assam Government and the BTC to give due importance to the Gorkha community people. The meeting was also attended by the literary pensioners Tarapati Upadhyaya, Bidyapati Dahal, Sahitya Akademi Translation awardee Puspadhar Sarmah and others.
