They gave themselves up to the police authorities at Akelgre village, 8 kms from Williamgar in East Garo Hills. The armed militants had been with Shira during the police encounter at Bawalgre over a week ago but maged to escape. In that encounter Sohan Shira was shot dead. The sustained police operations compelled the remaining rebels to give themselves up rather than to regroup. However, ULFA’s deputy commander in chief and IED expert Dristi Rajkhowa was not part of the eight member group. The group had 2 AK-56, INSAS rifle, SMG, .22 air rifle, .22 pistol to me a few and a huge cache of ammunitions.
