800m runner Tintu to aim to go sub-2 in European events

New Delhi, May 24: Reigning Asian champion in 800 metres, Tintu Lukka will aim to hit peak form for the 2016 Olympic Games by running sub-two minutes in a couple of tough races in Europe in May-June and then return there for more in July, her coach P.T. Usha said on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old athlete from Kanur (Kerala) will be participating in two intertiol competitions in London and Prague on May 28 and June 6.

The tiol Record holder who was amongst the early birds in Indian athletics to qualify for the Rio Games, will first compete in the BMC Grand Prix at Watford, London, on May 28, and then the Josef Odlozil Memorial competition in Prague (Czech Republic) on June 6.

Legendary Usha, who is Tintu’s coach, said her protege has started the season well with a 2.01 seconds race compared to her usual start of 2.03s, which is a good sign for the times ahead. Tintu’s persol best in is 1:59.17s. IANS
