85th annual conference of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha begins

SIVASAGAR, February 4: The 85th annual conference of the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha began on Thursday at the Xahityarathi Lakshmith Bezbaruah Samany Kshetra, Rupahi Pathar, Joysagar with Parivesh Nikakaran, pratah prasanga and am prasanga.

The historic Rupahi Pathar wore a festive look with the residents, irrespective of caste and community, preparing to host the conference.

The four-day long conference will witness literary and cultural competitions, ankiya bhao, symposiums on topics such as ‘New Vaishvite religion of Mahapurush  Sankardeva in the context of  India’, besides holding discussions  on religious and cultural issues.

Several gates set up at different points of the venue were iugurated as part of the first day’s schedule. Bhabendra th Deka, Padadhikar of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha iugurated the permanent entrance gate of the Sankari Sanskriti Project dedicated in memory Krish Chutia. Budhin Deori, Executive Director-cum-Asset Mager, Assam Asset, ONGC zira iugurated  the main stage  of the conference while Lakhi  Kanta Mahanta, former  secretary general, Asom Satra Mahasabha iugurated the amghar gate. The exhibition, book fair and competition stage was iugurated by Virendra Mittal , Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar while Dhiren Hazarika and Palash Ranjan Gharphalia, both Additiol Deputy Commissioners of Sivasagar, iugurated the  main office and reception committee office gate respectively.

Earlier, ba Kumar Malakar, DFO, Sivasagar iugurated the Seuji Dharani  scheme implemented by DRDA, Sivasagar.

Dr Jagat Chandra Kalita, president of the literature branch of the Sangha, chaired the conference of the literature branch while Babul Borah, chief secretary of the Sangha, iugurated the function. A souvenir and several books were also released on the occasion. To commemorate the occasion a souvenir titled Boikuntha Dutoi, was released by Dr Lakshmindan Bora, noted litterateur and former president, Axaom Xahitya Xabha (AXX). The book Sivasagar Darpan was released by Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka, Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankardev Vishwa Vidyalaya, gaon. Bhadra Krishan Goswami, chief adviser of Asom Satra Mahasabha, unveiled Itihase Katha Koi. Mohiruha, a brief biography of the presidents and secretaries of Sivasagar district branch of the Sangha was released by Dr Bhula Gogoi, noted educationist. In the function Prab Kumar Gogoi, Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly graced the meeting as a chief guest while Dr Dayanda Pathak, Professor, Srimanta Sankardev Vishwa Vidyalaya, gaon and  Dr. Hitesh Deka, Vice-Chancellor, Krish Kanta Handique State Open University attended as distinguished guests.

Tomorrow’s programme will also begin with Pratah Prasanga, Parivesh Nikakaran and am prasanga. The centre of attraction of tomorrow’s programme will be the address of Prime Minister rendra Modi who will attend the open session as chief guest.

Chief Secretary of the Sangha, Babul Bora, told The Sentinel that all the programmes are being held as per the schedule and all arrangement with the help of Sivasagar district administration have been made to welcome Prime Minister rendra Modi and other dignitaries.  

A permanent cultural complex with a budget of Rs. 7.3 crore is also being constructed at the venue. A permanent gate has already been constructed with a budget of Rs 6 lakh and a library and a music school would be set up at the complex with a fund of Rs 8.5 lakh given by ONGC.
