9 ft Long Burmese Rock Python rescued From Assam's Baksa District

A Burmese rock python measuring 9 ft long and weighing 10kg was rescued in Baksa District of Assam.

Kripa Borgoyary, who rescued the python from Kuntamari village under Simla police station in Baksa district of Assam on Monday evening said they were on the way to their village when they found villagers searching for the python to kill.

We have asked them not to kill the python and later rescued the reptile from the villagers and handed it over to the Forest Department officials,” Borgoyary said.

The rescuer later informed the Forest department in Baksa about the python who later brought the reptile to Kokrajhar.

The python was later handed over to the Wildlife Department in Kokrajhar who said that it will be released at the Chakrachila Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Burmese Python (Python Bivittatus) is one of the five largest species of snakes in the world. On an average, these pythons measure 12 ft in length and are found throughout Southern and Southeast Asia including India, Nepal, Western Bhutan, southeastern Bangladesh and other southeastern countries.
