90 students felicitated by NHPC under fellowship scheme

Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project to be functiol soon

Lakhimpur/Dhemaji, July 10: tiol Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) felicitated 90 students under NHPC fellowship scheme, 2015.Out of 90 students, 37 students are from Dhemaji district and 24 students are from Lakhimpur district and others are from various districts of Assam.

The main objective of the scheme of NHPC is to support and promote the needy, meritorious and talented students of Assam domicile, especially in the Subansiri Lower HE project. The courses offered under the scheme are Bachelor of Engineering, MBBS, Masters in Geology/ Geophysics, Diploma in Engineering and ITI. The students are given a scholarship money amount of Rs 4,000 per month. Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji ,Victor Carpenter, SPs of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji were present during the felicitation programme as guests of honour along with Executive Director of NHPC, Rakesh.

Lamps were lit by the guest of honor and Saraswati Banda was sung by the students of Kendriya Vidalaya NHPC. Each of the students was awarded and every student was assigned with a mentor to guide them during their scholarship period. The NHPC announced that they had constructed 3,000 toilets in the districts of Assam and Aruchal Pradesh under the Swacch Vidalaya Abhiyan.

The selection of the students was done on the basis of their merit. A minimum of 50 per cent marks is required to attain scholarship.  In the coming year, the seats will be increased to give an opportunity to many needy students to build a better future for themselves.

Later on the SPs of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji appreciated NHPC taking up such initiatives and congratulated all the students and blessed them to be successful in their careers.

The Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji gave a heart -warming speech to the students and congratulated them to do good in their future. He also asked all the students to be good human beings. 

The concluding speech was given by the Executive Director of NHPC, Rakesh in regard to the Lower Subansiri Hydro Power project. The project will soon be functiol. Around 2,000 mega watt power will be produced which will definitely solve the electricity problem of the district. The dam’s height is being reduced to 116 metres from 171 metres and the base is 271 metres. The width has been widened in comparison to the height, he said.

At the end of the speech, he congratulated all the students and asked all the mentors and their guardians to guide them properly as they were the future of the tion and the task force who would make India better in the near future.
