90,000 RRB employees to join strike today

GUWAHATI, June 29: Around 90,000 officers and workmen of regiol rural banks (RRBs) owning allegiance to the All India Regiol Rural Bank Employees’ Association (AIRRBEA) are going to participate in the all India strike in all 56 RRBs on June 30 in support of their various demands. The total business on RRBs as on March 31, 2017 has exceeded Rs 6 lakh crore. RRBs have nearly 30 crore customers, mostly of rural India. RRBs’ net profit as on March 31, 2017 was Rs 2573 crore after paying Rs 1415 crore tax to the Government of India.   According to a press release issued today by AIRRBEA, their demands are – immediate review of promotion/recruitment rules with relaxation norms for promotion at par with sponsor banks, opposition to privatization of RRBs, pension parity of RRB staff, regularization of all daily wage/casual workers, representation of workmen and officers in RRB Board of Directors, compensation for demonetization works as per sponsor banks.
