94-year old builds approach road single-handedly

Haflong, April 17: A man aged 94 years of Songpijan, a prosperous village located 2 km away from Haflong, has built an approach road measuring not less than 300 metres. Chungloi Changsan, a retired interpreter of Haflong DC court, felt the necessity of an approach road for his neighbours and his relatives who reside just at the upstream of NEC road in Songpijang village. In 2016 he came out with a spade in hand and started cutting the road on his own and within these two years he successfully carved out a road which is serving at least 10 houses. If anyone happens to be there in the morning, Changsan will be found with his spade, cutting and repairing the road.

When this correspondent met Changsan, a soft-spoken man of 94 years, he said he would turn 95 years. He added that even at such an age he completed the approach road single-handedly. When asked whether he was approached by others to help him in building this road, he said his sons, daughters and neighbours had volunteered to help.

“My children always tried to help me but they are away from me and also, I did not allow them to come forward as I feel this task was initiated by me and I have to complete it. Let the government make it a pucca road in future,” he said.
