9th biennial conference of Axom Xatra Mahaxabha gets underway

Doomdooma, Dec 17:  The ninth biennial conference of Asom Satra Mahasabha, Tinsukia district, got off to colourful start with hoisting of dharma dhwaja by Chakreswar Mahanta, president of Asam Satra Mahasabha, Tinsukia district, Padma Moran, president of Rupai Anchalik and Chandra Chandra Kanta Handique, president of reception committee, at Rupai High School field located at Santipur about 5 km from here.

The main pandal of Shankar Madhab Gopal Aniruddha Kshetra was iugurated by Dr Aru Gogoi Barua, retired Vice- Principal, Doomdooma College, which was followed by iuguration of exhibition-cum-book fair by Badan Sarma, former Vice-Principal, Doomdooma College. Thereafter various competitions on Diha m and Borgeet were held.

Prakash Dutta, Headmaster, Rupai High School, iugurated the competition. In the evening, the delegate session and subject committee meeting was held under the president ship of Chakreswar Mahants after completion of the last executive meeting. Brojen Mahanta and Dulal Boragohain lit the earthen lamps in the evening. The group from Auniati Xatra presented a dance-drama Kristir Barghor Majuli along with display of Bhortal.

The other notable event of the day was the delegate session adopting a resolution to demand the Assam Government to declare the birth anniversary of Shri Shri Aniruddha Dev as government holiday. It also resolved to request the government to expedite the process of mutation of xatra land and immediately release the Central grant received by the State Government to the xatras.

The two-year new executive was elected with Biren Mahanta as president and Dipak Patgiri as general secretary. Dr Pitambar Deva Goswami of Auniati Xatra who has arrived here on Friday night will give xaran to the disciples at Shantipur Rajahua mghar. The chief attraction of the first day’s programme was ‘Hazari Ghosha’ and ‘Gumala’, handloom weaved on a gamosa by Hemaprova Chutia of Phatikachowa village in Moran.

On Saturday, various programmes like Usha Kirtan, cleaning of environment, am prasanga, symposium, felicitation and iuguration of souvenir were held.
