Aadhaar-Based Biometric At Assam Civil Secretariat In Janata Bhawan On Cards

GUWAHATI: Taking a serious view on the lack of work culture on the part of a section of employees, the government is planning to adopt the Aadhaar-based biometric system at the Assam Civil Secretariat in Janata Bhawan, Dispur. And, if everything pulls on fine, the system will be operational from August or September.

The Secretariat plays a critical role in the administration of the State. The move has been introduced for smooth functioning of the Secretariat and for efficient as well as for effective delivery of services to the public, discipline in functioning including maintenance of regularity and punctuality in attendance by the Secretariat staff.

Talking to The Sentinel, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, Secretariat Administration Department, Dr M Angamuthu, added, “The government is serious about the work culture among government employees. The Aadhaar-based biometric system will ensure that the employees stick to the office schedule. In fact, show-cause notices have also been issued to the errant employees. This measure is being adopted as it has come to the notice of the administration that some staffers do not reach office on time.”

A recent order directed all branch officers and superintendents of the Secretariat to report at office at 9:30 am and monitor the reporting time of the other employees. The office timing is from 9: 30 am to 5 pm (without break). The order further stated that “the main gates would be closed” after 10 am for Janata Bhawan staffers.
