LAKHIMPUR, April 16: Lakhimpur district Committee of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) conferred Aai Asomee Award to noted painter and architect Biren Singha on Sunday. The organization decided to give away the award from the year onwards in the memory of those martyrs who made supreme sacrifices during the six year long Assam Movement from 1979 to 1985. The giving away ceremony of the award was held in the North Lakhimpur Government Boys HS School’s playground in the presence of a host of intellects of the district along with common people. The award carries a cash amount of Rs. 25,000 along with mementoes. Surajit Bhuyan, Principal of Lakhimpur Girls’ College, Jogananda Sut, Principal of Dhakuakhona College, Krishna Das, Finance Secretary of AASU  were present in the programme which was held in a befitting manner. Receiving the award, Biren Singha delivered a thought-provoking lecture highlighting various aspects of Assamese nationalism. 
The organization celebrated the Rongali Bihu festival following the programme. It began with the unfurling of the flag of the organization by president Pulak Borah and Bihu flag by Dr. Puspanath Borah. Swahid tarpan event was administered by secretary Dhanmoni Dutta. The members from the families of martyrs and oppressed in the Assam Movement, academicians, senior citizens were felicitated in the programme in connection with the festival.
