GAURISAGAR, June 24: The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) Selenghat branch on Saturday blocked Dhudar Ali for three hours in the Seleng Kaliapani portion under Mariani constituency in Jorhat district demanding electrification of Purana gaon under Boisahabi TE. Deprived of electricity, the workers of the TE had repeatedly submitted application to APDCL, Teok electrical subdivision but in vain. They alleged utter negligence of the TE authority in providing electricity to the people due to which they have been living in darkness all these years.
Left with no option, the anguished people of the TE on Saturday came out on the streets and expressed their strong resentment against the ASEB by blocking Dhudar Ali for three hours. Later the agitators called off their strike after Bhaskar Rajbongsi, Circle Officer of Teok Revenue Circle, gave assurance that their demand would be fulfilled. Ritesh Nayak and Sankar Kaya, president and secretary respectively of AASAA Selenghat branch also threatened to continue their strike if village was not electrified within a week.
