AASAA observes black day

MARGHERITA, May 15: All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) on Sunday observed black day and wore black badges at Bogapani, Digboi and Margherita in protest against the brutal killing of more than 10,000 Adivasi people in BTAD area, Dhubri and Bongaigaon on May 15, 1996.

Ramanus Lakra, general secretary of AASAA Tinsukia District Committee said, “On May 15, 1996 more than 10,000 Adivasi people were brutally killed in ethnic clashes and property belonging to Adivasi people were also destroyed. Today we observed this day as Martyrs Day and on this day AASAA was formed.”

Ashian Mundu, former Education Secretary, Ajit Hemrom, former organizing secretary of AASAA Tinsukia District Committee and more than 100 activists of AASAA were present today.
