AASAA protests against apathy towards tea labourers

KOKRAJHAR, March 23: Along with the rest of the State, the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA), West Kokrajhar anchalik committee on Monday burnt the effigies of former Union Minister Paban Sing Ghatowar, legislator Bhimanda Tanti and Dileswar Tanti at Daolabari Tea Estate in Kokrajhar for their failure to take appropriate action to enhance the wages of tea labourers. The AASAA activists also burnt the copies of the agreement between Assam Chah Mazdur Sangha and Consultative Committee for Planters’ Association for their alleged compromise with the Tea Board and the government. The student body threatened that they would not sit silent if the government failed to take appropriate measures for enhancement of daily wages of tea labourers to Rs. 330 per day/per head. The protest programme was also attended by the vice president of the AASAA, central committee, Stephen Lakhra, president of West Kokrajhar anchalik AASAA, Salim Minz and other leaders of the organization.
