AASAA slams magement of Philobari Tea Estate

MARGHERITA, April 26: The educated local youths of Philobari Tea Estate, which falls under Tinsukia district, have been deprived of basic amenities by the magement, alleged Ramanus Lakra, general secretary of All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA), Tinsukia District Committee.
Ramanus Lakra said that Israel Kumar, an educated person of the Adivasi community, had been working as teacher in Philobari Tea Estate LP School since the last 14 years but now he has been given duty as hazira mohri on field duty. “We demand that the magement of Philobari Tea Estate should take back Israel Kumar as teacher at Philobari LP School,” warned Lakra. On April 23, a memorandum was submitted to the Assistant Visiting Agent, Margherita, by AASAA Philobari Branch Committee with four demands such as Israel Kumar should be taken back as teacher of Philobari LP School, graduate local youths of Philobari Tea Estate should be given jobs at Philobari Tea Estate, electricity, firewood and other facilities should be given to permanent workers of Philobari Tea Estate and electricity deduction should be done through individual meter system.
“If the demands are not fulfilled then AASAA Tinsukia District Committee, along with AASAA Philobari Branch Committee will intensify agitation against the magement of Philobari Tea Estate,” said Ramanus Lakra.
