AASM Appeals To Kumar Deepak Das Not To Contest Poll On AGP Ticket

GUWAHATI: The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) 2019 had shaken the indigenous people just a few weeks back and there has been much contempt against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ever since. The recent alliance of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) with the ruling party has also given mouth to much criticism among the people. In light of the given situations, many AGP leaders contesting for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections has had to face equal wrath from the people of the state.

The Asom Andolan Sangrami Manch (AASM), which was created in condemnation of CAB 2019, has its Chief Convenor Kumar Deepak Das, contesting for the elections on AGP ticket. Convernor Pranab Goswami has made an appeal to Das to refrain from contesting in the elections as a member of AGP. At a press release, Goswami stated, “This manch was created in opposition of CAB 2019. Our Chief Convenor Kumar Deepak Das claimed that the bill would bring annihilation to the indigenous race. Inspite of it all, AGP has now formed an alliance with BJP. If Das contests in the elections as a member of the Asom Gana Parishad now, it will mean betrayal for all those who ever condemned CAB.”
