AASM stages rally against Bill, posts letter to the President

GUWAHATI, June 8: Strengthening the concerted protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 the Asom Andolan Sangrami Manch (AASM) led by former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta staged a protest rally from Dighalipukhuripar to Meghdoot Bhawan on Friday. While gathering at Meghdoot Bhawan, the activists of the Manch have posted huge numbers of letters addressing to the President, Prime Minister and the Home Minister, Government of India. They have also sent the same to the Governors of all the states and respective presidents of all the national and regional political parties. Through the letter, they appealed all the political parties to oppose the Bill at the time of introducing it in the next parliament session. The letter strongly opposed the Bill stating that it will defeat the very essence of the historic Assam Accord.
