AASU asks Dispur not to intervene in NRC work

GUWAHATI, May 8: The All Assam Student Union (AASU) chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya and president Dipanka Kumar Nath in a release expressed full faith and reliance upon the Supreme Court and asserted that the ongoing NRC work is in progress only because of the pivotal role played by the Supreme institution. Taking a dig at the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016, the apex student body pointed out that the Centre has attempted to delay the updation of NRC work by introducing the controversial legislation. Revealing that the Center on earlier occasion prayed the Supreme Court to lengthen the deadline for the final NRC updation, the release said “The Centre was conspiring to accommodate lakhs of illegal immigrants by defeating the NRC work.” The duo also cautioned the Centre as well as the state government not to intervene the NRC work in the name of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016.
