AASU burns effigy of Dharmendra Pradhan

Hike in fuel prices

LAKHIMPUR; May 23: The recent rise in fuel prices has evoked sharp reaction in Lakhimpur along with the other parts of the State. Strongly protesting the consecutive rise in fuel prices, the North Lakhimpur regional unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) burnt the effigy of Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Petroleum Minister, on Wednesday in North Lakhimpur town. “The Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which came in power with a promise of changing the nation, has caused unbearable suffering for the common people by hiking fuel prices consecutively. The decision of hiking fuel prices is anti-people,” said president Pranjeet Gogoi and secretary Punamjyoti Burhagohain while staging the protest. The activists of the organization shouted various anti-government slogans and demanded that fuel prices be reduced. Along with the activists North Lakhimpur regional unit, the members of the North Lakhimpur College and Lakhimpur Commerce College units of AASU were also present in the programme.

TAMULPUR: Kumarikata Anchalik AASU staged a protest at Kumarikata in the district of Baksa against the hike in fuel prices. On Wednesday, more than 200 activists of Kumarikata AASU gathered in front of the office of the Kumarikata Anchalik AASU and burnt the effigy of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The activists also shouted slogans against the BJP-led government as the ruling government, both in the Centre and the State, had failed to check the hike in fuel prices as well as the prices of essential commodities. The programme was led by Gobinda Sarania, president of Baksa district AASU, and Dulujit Das, education secretary of Baksa district AASU.

DEMOW: The activists of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Demow Regional Committee burnt the effigy of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday in Demow Chariali at NH-37 road in protest against increase in fuel price.

The AASU Demow Regional Committee activists shouted various slogans against the Union Petroleum Minister and the BJP government. In the protest, AASU leaders like Aditya Sarma of AASU Sivasagar District Committee, Dipankar Pratim Chetia and Sudipta Gogoi were present.
