AASU demands construction of roadside drains

From a Correspondent

Baihata Chariali, May 4: The construction of roadside drains at Baihata Chariali on NH-15 is the need of the hour for the solution of artificial floods created during the rainy season. Assistant secretary of Kamrup district AASU, Pradip Kr. Deka and president Rinku Moni Kalita, general secretary Dipankar Baniya of Pub Kamrup AASU, said in a press release that though the construction of the roadside drains at Baihata Chariali was started, the work remains incomplete due to which artificial flood created by the clogged water had wreaked havoc.

The Pub-Kamrup unit of AASU alleged that though the construction work of the drains had begun after repeated demands of the public, due to the lackadaisical attitude of the engineer and the contractor, the construction work had stopped mid-way.

The AASU unit also said that if the outlets of the drains reach the Madankuri River, the problem would be mitigated. So the student organization has demanded the higher authority of the department concerned to take strong steps for the completion of the drains up to Madan Kamdev Devalaya gate for the convenience of the public, failing which the AASU unit would be forced to stage democratic movement against the department.
