Goalpara, Aug 25: The All Assam Students Union (AASU) on Friday carried out a road blockade at Dudhnoi chariali demanding immediate repair of the Dudhnoi-Matia road. Thousands of students from Dudhnoi College and other educatiol institutions blocked the NH-37 at Dudhnoi traffic point creating a huge vehicle gathering.
The students shouted slogans against the State government for its failure to take corrective measures. “From Matia to Dudhnoi hundreds of students and thousands of people use this road on daily basis. However, neither improvement nor repairing has been done in recent years,” said a student.
Mention may be made that the road from Dudhnoi via Matia to Pancharat, Goalpara has been placed under State Highway-46 and tender was also called for the construction of the same in recent times. But the construction has not yet started by the contractors as a result of the matter people are suffering day and night.
Earlier also several protests were demonstrated in front of the office of the deputy commissioner. But in reality, nothing happened. On Friday, the students showed up its anger and grievance through the road blockade and sent a strong message to the government.
